Run to Feed the Hungry
Sacramento, California

Staying true to its name, the Run to Feed the Hungry 10K run and 5K run/walk raises funds for the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Organizers hope to make a real impact on families who may not be able to put food on the table this Thanksgiving. The goal is for 100 percent of the 28,000 runners and walkers to contribute to fundraising efforts with a $150,000 benchmark set.

YMCA Buffalo Turkey Trot
Buffalo, New York

This race has been around for 119 years—making it the oldest turkey trot in the country. The crowds have grown and the roads have been paved since it began in 1896, but it still follows the original 8K course. Featuring a post-race celebration with awards, refreshments and even a costume contest, you can bring the whole family for some holiday fun before that Thanksgiving Day feast.

Fifth Third Turkey Trot
Detroit, Michigan

Accompanying Detroit's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Fifth Third Turkey Trot is considered the "Parade before the Parade" in Detroit. The race encourages participants—more than 20,000 runners in a typical year—to dress in costume, create running floats and recruit the whole family to participate including the family dog. A flat and fast course, it even brings in some of the speedier runners from around the country.

New Orleans Athletic Club Turkey Day Race
New Orleans, Lousiana

Celebrating its 107th anniversary this year, the legendary Turkey Day Race is one of the oldest continuously held races in the country, only being suspended in 1918 for World War I and from 1943 to 1945 for World War II. The event, which starts just outside of Tad Gormlet Stadium, takes runners through City Park and to the finish on the track inside the stadium. With 5-mile and ?-mile races, this is an event fit for the whole family.
