2016 London Marathon: Highlights and Happenings

The Extras

The race also saw its one-millionth finisher, whose name has yet to be announced. Marathon officials plan to reveal the special runner to the public on May 9.

Not all of the marathon's notable events happened on planet Earth, though. British astronaut Tim Peake completed the virtual version of the race aboard the International Space Station, running on a treadmill with a special harness that keeps him grounded.

Starting his 26.2-mile run at the same time as the London Marathon, Peake crossed the "finish line" in 3:35, setting the Guinness (out of this) World Record for being the first man to run a marathon in space. (We sneak-peeked this for you last week in our Coolest Things in Running.)

On the same day as the season six premiere of "Game of Thrones," Natalie Dormer—who plays Margaery Tyrell on the hit HBO show—finished the race with an impressive time of 3:51:21.
