Equipment Required: Full size or compact semi-auto pistol w/ 3 magazines Quality Outside the Waistband holster and 1 or 2 magazine pouches (no finger activated holsters) Sturdy gun belt 700 rounds of ammunition Hearing and eye protection Closed toe shoes and pants with belt loops Course Description: Any human given no time to think will react as they have been trained. In a gunfight or competition, the body needs to be on auto pilot for the brain to process the problem and formulate solutions. This training has produced more real-life gunfighters than you’ll ever know. DP1 emphasizes marksmanship and weapons handling skills. Not for the completely unskilled, DP1 combines the essentials of marksmanship with the principles of combat shooting and places them into a hierarchy of necessity and importance. You must know how to use a holster, lock your gun open and keep your fingers out of the trigger guard when not firing. Training focuses on a mastery of the basics in a highly diagnostic fashion. Master the critical aspects of muscular-skeletal alignment for platform, pistol presentation, modern grip, and trigger management. Common misconceptions regarding shooting are addressed. Special Concerns: DP1 can be physically demanding with extensive amounts of shooting and weapon manipulation. Bending over will occur and sore hands can result. Full focus and attention to detail is necessary. On the range, shooters will be occupied loading magazines and taking notes between shooting drills. Topics include: Mechanics of grip Mechanics of stance/platform Efficient draw and presentation Sight alignment and sight picture Trigger management Pressure wall firing techniques Emergency reloads 360° Situational awareness and personal safety Safe motor programs for loading and making ready Safe motor programs for clearing of a weapon This course is limited to 16 students.
