Middle and High schoolers are invited to Exploring Nature in Your Backyard, a free 3-week outdoor program with The Watershed Project. All participants meet at the Richmond Recreation Complex at 3230 Macdonald Ave at 4 pm each Wednesday. Transportation will be provided to educational sites. Programming concludes at 7pm.Week 1: Wednesday, October 23: Introduction to Your Watershed Experience The Watershed Project’s interactive watershed model. Discover the natural journey of water and its impact on the environment. Participants will visually explore their watershed and design a handheld watershed model. Then, participants will nature journal and take a walk along the Bay Trail to explore the marsh habitat. Week 2: Wednesday, October 30: Visiting the Bay Explore the beautiful Bay Trail and marsh area with us! Spend the day learning about native plants, enjoying birdwatching, discovering the local ecosystem, and cleaning up the sandy beach.
Week 3: Wednesday, November 6: Night Times Senses Explore the wonders of the night at the Berkeley Field Station! Safely enjoy the darkness as we explore night animals and go on a “crepuscular crawl”. Use your senses to find each other with “echo location” and discover the fascinating world of nocturnal creatures.
