Description
Join our Tamalada, a traditional event that gathers family, friends, and neighbors for a festive tamale-making session. The social gathering, usually held the weeks preceding the holidays, ferments conversations, bonding, and occasionally, friendly gossip. This informative and entertaining session will start with an introduction to tamales, overview, history, variations, and steaming methods. The participants will be introduced to the extensive variety of tamales both in Latin America and beyond. Participants will learn the authentic methods for making the tamale masa and different fillings. They will learn different techniques of rolling and folding the tamales. We will also demonstrate the steaming process with a variety of cookware.
While the traditional tamale today is usually pork or chicken, there will be vegan options available. Attendees will also be able to taste the tamales at the session and will leave with tamales to cook at home and a recipe guide.
