Harvesting History: Pecans

Historic Oak View County Park • 4028 Carya Drive RaleighNC  27610 Organized by Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space

About this event

Description

Join us on Thursday, November 7 at 2 p.m. and explore the history of Oak View's hundred-year-old pecan grove! Learn why and how pecan trees were planted in the 1900s and challenges the grove has faced over the years. The program also covers the pecan's history of cultivation and commercialization. At the end of the program, participants are invited to try their luck harvesting pecans from the grove.
Registration is required for all participants. The program will take place outdoors, so please come prepared with weather appropriate clothing. It will include walking and standing on brick paths and uneven grass surfaces in the pecan grove.
Please let us know in advance if you or anyone in your group requires ADA accommodations. Upon arrival, please check in with park staff in the Farm History Center (our visitors center building). As a courtesy to other participants, the waitlist and the instructor, if you find you have a change in plans and can no longer attend, please email oakview@wake.gov or call 919-250-1013.
