About this event
During Step Club, the body becomes an instrument, using footsteps, claps, and spoken word to produce complex poly-rhythms. Stepping is a percussive, highly-energetic art form first developed through the song and dance rituals performed by African American fraternities and sororities, but rooted in the history of South Africans and African Americans. Students will have the opportunity to learn and create various step combinations and have a chance to perform these routines for their peers. Claudette’s experience and passion for step comes from her being a member of her high school step team where they competed against various teams across New York City. More recently, she has led numerous step intensives for our middle school students over the last few years. (Please note: There are no sessions on Oct 3 & 31, Nov 28.)
