The Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) Year Round Swim Team is designed to be a program with a strong recreational format for the non-ranked, non-sanctioned participant. This team requires a full-year commitment. Swimmers will experience the dedication, strokes, and skills to advance to a more competitive type of swim team (i.e. USA Swim). Swimmers participate in two practices per week. There will be over 80 practices and swim meets throughout the season.

Season will take place January 28 – December 19, 2024

Level of Instruction: Advanced. Swimmers are placed on a competitive swim team and must be advanced swimmers.

Tryouts: Swimmers must try out on January 13 from 4:30 to 5 p.m. at the Parker Recreation Center and make the team. Payment and final registration for the season will be taken immediately following tryouts , in person.. If you are selected for the team, the cost is $1320 for Parker residents and $1452 for non-residents. Payment for team is required upon selection. Payment plans are available. *$5 non re-fundable try-out fee will be applied to total if the child makes the team.

Practice Times: Swimmers who make the team after tryouts will practice on Mondays & Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Parker Recreation Center, beginning January 29, 2024.

Skill Requirements: Swimmers who are interested in participating in Year- Round CARA Swim Team must be proficient in the following:

• 50 yards of front crawl with rotary breathing
• 25 yards of back crawl
• 25 yards of breaststroke
• 25 yards of butterfly
• Ability to perform front flip turns
• Ability to demonstrate a head-first entry

Skills/Fundamentals Learned: Swimmers will improve their endurance, strength and breathing techniques as they train on the following strokes throughout the season:
• Breaststroke
• Backstroke
• Freestyle
• Butterfly
• Starts and turns appropriate for each stroke

Instructor: Swimmers are coached by staff members from the Parker Parks and Recreation Aquatics staff who are trained in swimming, diving, coaching, CPR/AED and First Aid.
