Lifeguard Academy participants who successfully complete the class requirements will receive American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications and are guaranteed an interview to become a City of Palmdale lifeguard upon completion of employment application and pre-screening test during recruitment period. Course fee includes textbook, supplies, pocket mask, hip pack, and Red Cross Certification fee. Participants must be able to swim a minimum of 100 yards (4 laps) continuously, retrieve a weighted object from a minimum depth of 5 feet, and tread water for two minutes prior to the first day of the course. Participants unable to pass the swim test, will be withdrawn from the class and the class fee with be fully refunded. All lifeguard candidates who wish to apply for a job must be 17 years of age by July 1, 2025.
Registration for this class will CLOSE on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 12:00pm. Class may be canceled or extended based on enrollment numbers.
***Bring swimming attire to every class meeting, including the first class meeting**
Pre-course swim test will take place on Tuesday, February 18 from 4:30pm-7:30pm at Courson park pool. After the participant has enrolled in the class, an aquatics staff member will reach out, via phone, to coordinate a time that is convenient for the participant to complete the pre-course swim test during the designated timeframe.
The class will meet on:
- Friday, February 21 from 5:00pm-9:00pm
- Saturday, February 22 from 9:00am-4:00pm
- Sunday, February 23 from 9:00am-4:00pm
- Friday, February 28 from 5:00pm-9:00pm
- Saturday, March 1 from 9:00am-4:00pm
- Sunday, March 2 from 9:00am-4:00pm
Class may be canceled or extended based on enrollment numbers.
