About this event
Instructor Patti Adams Mondays 9am - noon 6 classes: March 10 - April 14, 2025 No prerequisite This class focuses on giving students a deeper understanding of the medium through working from still life setups, reference photographs and/or painting in a series. It will include discussions on: • • watercolor materials • • color mixing and paint properties specific to watercolors • • brush strokes and basic washes (flat wash, graded wash, wet into wet wash, etc) and painting methods in watercolor (direct, wet into wet, dry brush and glazing) • • composition and design Classes will include instructor demonstrations and exercises on a variety of subjects. There will also be optional weekly homework assignments that will be discussed at the beginning of each class. Supplies: Robert Wood palette or equivalent Selection of brushes including a variety of rounds (for example 6, 8, 10), a mop brush, 1' and 2’ flat wash brushes Suggested Paints (Winsor-Newton and/or Daniel Smith recommended: Aureolin Yellow New Gamboge Cad Lemon Yellow Cad Red Light Alizarin Crimson Burnt Sienna Raw Sienna Ultramarine Blue Cobalt Blue Cerulean Blue Thalo Blue Sap Green Thalo Green Viridian Optional colors: Magenta, Indigo, Prussian Blue, Pyrrol Orange - Daniel Smith, Quinacridone Gold - Daniel Smith Supplies to bring: Arches 140 lb cold-pressed watercolor paper - available to buy in the Academy supply shop Two water containers 2H pencil kneaded eraser paper towels Masters brush cleaning soap
