Exploring Pen & Ink

Main Building • 5256 Magazine Street New OrleansLA  70115 Organized by New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts

About this event

Few media can match the expressiveness and immediacy of pen and ink. Drawing inspiration from the great masters of the Renaissance, the minimalist landscape artists of Japan, and the classic book illustrators of the 19th and early 20th centuries, we will study and practice the ways pen and ink can be used to create an endless variety of textures and effects. Students will learn to use cross hatching, stippling, scumbling, contour lines and other techniques to render three-dimensional forms and create value. Using pens, brushes, India ink and ink wash, each student will work through exercises and projects designed to help guide them towards discovering their own unique style. Prerequisites: Some drawing experience is recommended but not required Supplies: Speedball Super Black or other brand of waterproof India ink #2 round pointed brush 2-3 Watercolor brushes of various sizes Bristol Board pad (smooth) 9"x12" or Larger Sketchbook, Pencils, Eraser Small tube of white gouache or acrylic paint Pen nib and holder sets will be available for purchase for $5 the first day of class.
