City Nature Challenge Hike
Lake Crabtree County Park • 1400 Aviation Parkway Morrisville, NC 27560 Organized by Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open SpaceAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The City Nature Challenge (April 25-28, 2025) is a great way to learn more about the natural world around you while you contribute photos and data to science. Each year, the Triangle area competes against other cities and geographic regions around the world to see who can collect the most observations. Find out more at: https://citynaturechallenge.org/participate/Looking for a fun and easy way to participate? Join park staff in for a guided hike where we will search the park for grasses, wildflowers, insects and other photographic wildlife that look interesting. We try to identify the species we find and add our data to iNaturalist and the park's Biodiversity Project. Participants will be given ID guides and assistance with ID from park staff during the program.
Bring a camera or smartphone to collect your observations for the City Nature Challenge as you explore and learn.
Prior to arriving at the park, download the iNaturalist app onto any smartphones that will be used for the Challenge and create an account for each individual who wants to participate. You may also participate by bringing a camera and uploading your photos into your iNaturalist account on your computer at home.
The floodplain is the first right on the main park road. You will see a garden and a large open field next to the lake.
