Light Up the Night Moth Hike
Hickory Creek Junction Route 30/Lincoln Highway, west of Wolf Road Mokena, IL 60448 Organized by Forest Preserve District of Will CountyAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this program is over. The last meeting was Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Celebrate National Moth Week with a glowing night hike. Moths make up 90% of the butterfly family, yet most of us can only identify one or two of them. Join a naturalist to discover what makes moths special and why we should celebrate this group of insects. We’ll set out on a hike sharing ultraviolet flashlights to aid in search for hidden insects glowing along the trail. Along the way, we will check out our illuminated “research centers” to see if we attracted any winged visitors.
The program will meet at Hickory Creek Junction Shelter in the back parking lot. We will be hiking at least 1 mile on uneven natural trails with elevation changes.
Ages 8 or older.
