Description
The story of the Baltimore region is interwoven with the story of The Patapsco River. In this program, we tell the story of that river, from before the time of the Industrial Revolution and ocean-going ships calling at Elkridge Landing, through the trials of floods, then with an expanding industrial economy with the now major port forced to cope with growth, then major pollution. Large industries were established on the waterfront for riverfront access, people came and went on steamboats, while upstream, a new state park was created to protect the river offering recreational opportunities to the region’s citizens. The river is our focus, its story, and how it helped create a modern Baltimore region. Presented by Jack Burkert. Please sign up at the 50+ center front desk or by calling 410-313-0380.
