About this event
This class is for any adults who are interested in taking their clay wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing to the NEXT LEVEL. Over the course of 8 weeks artist and expert clay instructor, Elizabeth Chiaravalli, will help guide and teach special ceramic clay techniques! Students who can do the following will get the most out of this class: -identify leather hard, chocolate hard and bone dry clay -Reliably throw or hand build a cylinder -trim or attach feet and handles -understand the basics of applying glaze -imagine clay pieces they would like to create Students who cannot do the skills above will generally be attempting these skills independently with very little instruction. Some techniques taught may include ceramic design for function, visual effectiveness, and/or communicating artistic intent, throw and altered pieces, slip transfers, underglaze screen printing, surface and glaze design, experimental clay additives, kurinuki, faceting, lids, making larger work, and whatever else students are wanting to grow in their ceramic expression. Unlimited reclaim clay is included in the price of the class, students will pay a small per ounce fee to fire pieces. New clay can be purchased from REACH - no outside clay is allowed. Class registration also includes free admission to the Friday Clay Lab to practice techniques of finish projects from each week.
