THe College of the Florida Keys Swim Around Key West hosts the safest Open Water 12.5 mile around the island race beginning at Smathers Beach (2000 S Roosevelt Bllvd.). Other open water distances are offered as well. The 20K and 10K swimmers will swim toward the Key West Harbor, through Fleming Key Channel, swim around Sigsbee toward Cow Key Bridge, through Cow Key Bridge, back to the Atlantic Ocean to finish at Higgs Beach. The 10K will end the course at Sigsbee. The Swim Around Key West and other distance swims are sponsored by The College of the Florida Keys who has been involved with this race since 1986 as well as all aspects of competivie swimming on the island. Safety is foremost with lifeguards and safety boat rescue crews located along the course under the direction of the Power Squadron. No Refunds given due to upfront costs associated with the race.
Event details and schedule
June 13, 2025: Mandatory Safety meeting and packet pick up for The College of the Florida Keys Swim Around Key West participants and 10K swimmers to be held at The College of the Florida Keys Pool (5901 College Road, Key West, FL 33040) anytime from 10am to 7pm. There will also be Mermaid shows at 10am and 2pm. Coconut painting is from 9am-1pm.
Participants for the shorter Open Water race (800 yd, 1 mile or 2 mile) may pick up packets on Smathers Beach on June 14 or at The College on June 13.
June 14, 2025: Smathers Beach (2000 South Roosevelt Blvd., Key West, FL 33040): The College of the Florida Keys Swim Around Key West and 10K -Check in begins at 8:00am with race start at 9:30am. Registration/Check in for 800 yard, 1 mile, and 2 mile swim race will begin at 9:00am with race Start at 9:40am.
June 14, 2025: Awards ceremony at Smathers Beach: Open water races (800 yd, 1 mile, 2 mile)-immediately following the 2 mile event. The Swim Around Key West and 10K swimmers will be at 5:30pm.
