This course is an introduction to basic woodworking. In this class you will build a functional and beautiful serving tray out of handsome domestic hardwoods. This workshop will cover safe power and hand tool use, a variety of jigs used to cut parts for your tray, and simple yet effective finishing techniques. We will also spend time discussing wood and its properties so you can design and build strong and functional woodworking projects on your own. In this course, students will build their own wooden serving tray. The tray made from basswood uses simple mitered construction. The tray is finished on the outside with milk paint and shellac or with oil and wax. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission
