Instructor: Lisa Jennings Join us for this immersive 4 -week, 12-hour class series, where you'll delve into the world of contemporary painting, explore the limitless possibilities of mark making, and unleash your creativity with acrylics to learn the foundation for abstract painting Week 1: Exploring Mark Making The first week focuses on the significance of mark making as a form of expression. Students will explore various techniques using paints, pencils, and crayons, guided by demonstrations from Lisa, who will use unconventional tools like feathers, sticks, and found objects. The influence of music and silence on the creative process will be explored, encouraging students to experiment with diverse expressive tools and scales. Week 2: Elements and Principles of Design In the second week, students delve into the elements and principles of design through small contemporary painting studies. Key concepts include color dominance, value, unity, line, contrast, shape, balance, texture, movement, pattern, rhythm, and repetition. Understanding these fundamentals is crucial for developing a strong foundation in painting and design work. Week 3: Layering and Building The third week is dedicated to applying design elements and principles to create larger, more complex artworks. Students will practice layering techniques to add depth and learn how to paint over existing layers to enhance their compositions. This exploration aims to foster creativity in contemporary, abstract, and non-objective art forms. Week 4: Finalizing Your Masterpiece In the final week, students reflect on their progress and the techniques they've mastered.
