About this event
Day one: Students will learn the concept of designing a mosaic, transfer images and choose appropriate materials. This class includes learning how to use tile nippers, instructions on sealing substrates and the importance of choosing the appropriate glue to adhere the tesserae onto the substrate. The size of the mosaic will be 8” x 10”. Students will learn how to build relationships with raw materials to create a contrast of textures that “talk to each other” in a unique image. Students will work for 3 hours with an optional 20 min break. Students are encouraged to walk around and visit other artists in the classroom during the break. Creative sharing is encouraged. Day Two: Dress for a mess. Students will check mosaics to ensure all the tesserae is glued on appropriately prior to grouting. Any last-minute pieces that need to be glued on will be done at the beginning of the class to let the glue cure. Students will choose grout color and learn how to mix the grout to achieve the appropriate consistency. All pieces will be grouted and cleaned by the end of the class. Framing options, appropriate hardware for hanging, etc. will be discussed. Three hours allotted for grouting and finishing, although it may not take that long. All supplies are included in this workshop.
