Description
The Pageant of the Masters is a 90-minute theatrical performance where famous works of art are brought to life onstage through live reenactments, transforming classical and contemporary pieces into living masterpieces. A live narrator guides the audience through the story of each piece, complete with music by a full orchestra. The 2024 show, “A La Mode: The Art of Fashion”, will revisit some of history’s grandest spectacles and fashion trends through the magic of living pictures, unforgettable live music, and engaging storytelling. Artistic Director Diane Challis Davy is inspired by history as well as the annual Met Gala ball and modern fashion TV shows. Featured works to be recreated include paintings by American artist John Singer Sargent, Frensh artists Edouard Manet and James Tissot, as well as British painters Thomas Gainsborough and David Hockney. Three-dimensional wors will also appear, such as brooches and pendants from early 1900s jewelers. Legendary Hollywood designer Edith Head will be recognized as well, with sketches and moving posters from her collaboration with director Alfred Hitchcock. Costume Director Reagan Foy, who typically creates the Pageant’s costumes out of painted cotton muslin, will instead be using a variety of luxe materials. Whether making an entrance or casting a spell, what people have worn through the ages has always been telling. From the splendors of royal courts to today’s catwalks, prepare to be dazzled! Food is available for purchase at the festival, and patrons are welcome to bring in their own food and drink.
