Join the Tradition of Basketball at the YMCA – Winter 2025 Youth Basketball League!
Did you know that basketball was invented at a YMCA? The tradition continues this winter as the Detroit YMCA hosts youth basketball leagues across metro Detroit! Whether you're looking to introduce your child to the sport or help them take their game to the next level, we’re excited to welcome players of all skill levels.
We Need Coaches – and We Need YOU!Our YMCA basketball programs are at the heart of community engagement, helping young athletes develop skills, teamwork, and a love of the game. We rely on volunteers to make this possible, and we’d love for you to join us as a coach! By volunteering, you’ll play a key role in fostering sportsmanship and personal growth in our young players.
To ensure the safety and success of all involved, all youth sports coaches are required to complete a national SSN background check, online child abuse prevention and athlete protection training, and YMCA sports league training. You’ll also need to provide 3 references prior to the start of the season. Expect to spend about 4-6 hours on training.
Program Details:This is an Inter-YMCA league, where teams will practice at their local YMCA. Games will take place on Saturdays and rotate each week between the following locations:
- Macomb YMCA
- Boll YMCA
- Farmington YMCA
- South Oakland YMCA
Important Dates to Remember:
- Week of January 13th: First week of practices (practice days and times will vary by team)
- Saturday, January 25th: First games
- Saturday, March 15th: “All Star Court” Final Games at the Boll Family YMCA in Downtown Detroit
