Description

Adult swimming lessons are for 18+ adult beginners who may just be starting to learn to swim, or for those hoping to develop their basic strokes. Participants set their own goals to develop water confidence and smooth recognizable strokes. Together with their instructor, participants may choose to follow the Adult 1-3 curriculum.


Adult 1 Skills:
  • Enter and exit shallow water
  • Jump into deep water, return and exit
  • Sideways entry wearing PFD
  • Tread water 30 seconds wearing PFD
  • Hold breath underwater 5-10 seconds
  • Submerge and exhale 5-10 times
  • Open eyes underwater
  • Recover object from bottom in chest-deep water
  • Wearing PFD, jump into deep water, tread 30 seconds, and swim/kick 5-10m
  • Float on front and back
  • Roll laterally front to back, and back to front
  • Glide on front, back, and side
  • Whip kick in vertical position with PFD 15-30 seconds
  • Front Crawl and Back Crawl 10-15m
  • Interval training: 4 x 10m flutter kick with 15 second rests
Adult 2 Skills:
  • Standing dive into deep water
  • Forward roll entry into deep water with and without PFD
  • Tuck jump (cannonball) into deep water
  • Tread water 1-2 minutes
  • Handstand in shallow water
  • Front somersault in water
  • Swim underwater 5-10m
  • Roll entry into deep water, tread 1 minute, and swim 50m
  • Flutter kick on back 5m, reverse direction and kick on front 5m
  • Flutter kick on front 5m, reverse direction and flutter kick on back 5m
  • Whip kick on back 10-15m
  • Whip kick on front 5-10m
  • Breaststroke arms drill 10-15m
  • Front Crawl and Back Crawl 25m each
  • Interval training" 4 x 25m flutter kick with 15 second rests
  • Sprint front crawl 25m
Adult 3 Skills:
  • Shallow dive into deep water
  • Stride entry into deep water
  • Compact jump into deep water
  • Legs-only surface support 30-60 seconds
  • Back somersault in water
  • Swim underwater 5-10m to recover object
  • Eggbeater kick on back 10-15m
  • Scissor kick on back or side 10-15m
  • Breaststroke 25-50m
  • Front Crawl and Back Crawl 50-100m each
  • Interval training: 4 x 50m front or back crawl or breaststroke with 30 second rests
  • Sprint 25-50m front or back crawl or breaststroke
  • 300m workout
