Are you ready to take your outdoor skills to the next level? Join us for an overnight backcountry trip training to learn the essential skills for safely planning and facilitating overnight trips in remote wilderness areas. No prior backcountry experience required! This is an overnight weekend program from Friday at 7:00pm to Sunday at 2:00pm. It includes 1 night in tents at a primitive campsite at Camp Juniper Knoll and 1 night in tents at a primitive campsite on the Ice Age Trail. It will include a backpacking trip, hiking a total of 6 miles over two days. The training will cover the following topics and skills: Basic Trip Planning; What to Pack (including personal and group gear); How to Fit & Pack a Backpack; How to Use, Clean, and Store Equipment; Campsite Set-Up; Backcountry Meal Plans and Cooking; Water Treatment; Leave No Trace Principles; Navigation and Map Reading; Knot-Tying Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks; and Sunday breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided. Backpacks, tents, sleeping pads, trekking poles, water treatment systems, cooking equipment, and first aid supplies are provided. A personal packing list will be shared by email after registration. This is an advanced outdoor training designed for leaders who plan to take their troops on wilderness trips in remote areas. Participants are strongly encouraged to have completed their Outdoor Training modules before registering. This training does not include Basic First Aid, CPR, or Wilderness First Aid training.
