Mixed media techniques can expand an idea by employing new ways to express an idea that is unique to the artist and clarifies a message or mood. Artist Sue Tyler guides you to unique and personal ways of art making. We review concepts of basic design, selection of materials, planning, and execution of expressive, unique designs. We explore techniques of layering and painting, collage, curation and assessment of one’s own work. We work on ways to access the “artist’s language” while creating to achieve clarity and purpose in art making. Session 2: February 15: “ Create With Collage” We build structure in our art through collage techniques. We continue to practice thoughtful design and search for ideas. Exercises include mark making, using new tools and materials, layering, and glazing. We’ll take time to consider personal goals, and ways to achieve them in a work of art through journalling and discussions. Students should bring a sketchbook, collage materials of choice (optional), and the desire to create and share with others.
