Sue Tyler is leading three consecutive workshops on the Art of Drawing. Participants are welcome to register for one session, or all three! Drawing is a skill accessible to everyone. It can be used in all aspects of art making, as well as a way to understand the nature of a subject. Artist Sue Tyler teaches the basic skills of drawing through observation. We practice contour and gesture drawing, values studies, and skills in measuring proportion and distance. The goal is to have fun and learn to close the gap between what the mind perceives and what is actually seen. Session 1, January 11: The Power of Line and Shape Making We discuss and practice ways to use line and shape to produce drawings from observation. Exercises in memory drawings, contour, and gesture drawings with lines help students shift to an artist’s method of looking and recording a subject. We practice ways to use lines and shapes to simplify and clarify the subject. Students should bring a notebook or sketchbook, enthusiasm, and desire to improve skills. Beginners are welcome!
