Mixed media techniques can expand an idea by employing new ways to express an idea that is unique to the artist and clarifies a message or mood. Artist Sue Tyler guides you to unique and personal ways of art making. We review concepts of basic design, selection of materials, planning, and execution of expressive, unique designs. We explore techniques of layering and painting, collage, curation and assessment of one’s own work. We work on ways to access the “artist’s language” while creating to achieve clarity and purpose in art making. Session 1, February 8: “Design, Value and Color” How does an artist create eye catching work? Design, value, and color are keys to directing the eye to the main idea. We review and practice building a solid foundation while making art with these in mind. We look at selection of materials, color mixing, and a few techniques to begin and complete a piece, using acrylics and support materials. Students should bring a sketchbook, collage materials of choice (optional), and the desire to create and share with others.
