About this event
Period A: Get Creative with Clay and Laser Cutting Get creative with our design equipment in the Carter Innovation Studio! We’ll make different arts, crafts and projects using polymer clay, which stays continually soft and can be baked in a home oven while keeping its color and size. You will learn how to work with the clay, learn basic techniques and create your own designs while also learning how to use the laser cutter and Adobe Programming. What will you design to take home? Instructor Vanessa Restrepo has a passion for art, design, and fashion. She has been making jewelry and other clay creations for years and is an artist with her own company in the Bay Area. She loves working with youth to help expand horizons and share respect for our multicultural community. Period B: Advanced F1 Blockzone Robotics- Get ready for the race of your life. This advanced building class is intended for experienced Lego builders who have built complex technical builds and can follow build models and instructions (mostly) independently. We will be building a remote control 2300 piece Alfa Romeo F1 race car. This car is extremely detailed and is perhaps the coolest build you will ever do. Once complete, students will have a chance to test and modify their car before competing in the Athenian Grand Prix! This class is led by Athenian Assistant Athletics Director Zach Holt and resident LEGO expert, and the goal is for kids to be able to learn about robotics while building socially with others. Each kid will take home their completed projects.
