About this event

Description

Course Description
Painting/Beginners (Introduction to Painting) is a three-part traditional course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of traditional oil painting. Students will develop a fundamental understanding of the complex medium of oil and acrylic paint through progressive exercises. Students will learn how to handle paint, mix colors, organize the picture plane, and develop observational skills. Students will work primarily from still life set-ups. Note: While not required, it is highly recommended that you take a basic drawing class prior to taking this class. The focus of this course is on Representational Painting which assumes you have a basic understanding of foundational drawing skills.
Part One of this course will focus on Grisaille (Black & White) painting.
Course Objectives (General Description)
This Three Part course is an 8 week course. The goal of this course is as follows:
Create realistic paintings by developing drawing skills that will allow student to create a proper sense of form and proportion.• Develop observational skills that will enable the students to translate three-dimensional information onto a two-dimensional plane (the canvas).• Create a strong sense of shadow and light by observing and developing proper color and value structure of the subject matter.• Create accurate and dynamic color through proper color mixing.• Develop knowledge and understanding of the material (oil and acrylic paint, brushes, medium, solvents, etc) required to make a proper oil painting.
Course Objectives (Grisaille Painting and Alla-Painting)
Grisaille Painting: Develop a strong sense of value structure and a basic understanding of application of paint (oil and acrylic) and sense of material. Grisaille painting is the creation of a painted image in black, white, and various tones of gray.
