Description
The Gold River Natural Area was bequeathed to the Municipality by the late Rudy Haase and the Chester Educational Foundation. Rudy’s desire was to see the land retained in its natural state, while allowing low-impact recreation opportunities. This is an absolutely beautiful area, the trail here leading you through mature stands of Acadian Forest species of Eastern Hemlock, Yellow Birch, Maples and Red Spruce all the way to Gold River (about 4.5 km round-trip) itself where we will break for a snack and chat before heading back. If conditions allow, we will have a small fire in a twig stove to warm up by. Come prepared for a few solid hours of hiking with some elevation change. Wear good hiking footwear, bring extra layers, water and a snack. Under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
