Beads in Clay: 3 Day Workshop!

Cheltenham Center for the Arts • 439 Ashbourne Road CheltenhamPA  19012 Organized by Cheltenham Center for the Arts

About this event

Clay beads have always been made in abundance. They were first painted in patterns similar to those used on pots and bowls. Throughout history, both men and women have proudly worn beads, from Africa to Asia and South America to Alaska. Making beads is a skill which is easy to perfect and is limited only by the imagination and expertise of the maker. Come join us as we explore the fascinating history and creation of BEADS in CLAY. Our time together will be spent making all shapes and styles of BEADS from both the PAST and PRESENT using scroddled, white, red & chocolate earthenware clays. Time permitting, we will also form earthenware jewelry components using molds or texture mat designs. Our earthy creations will be left raw or finished with terra sigillata and/or underglazes prior to their firing and on our final day, we will fashion our components into CLAY-to-WEAR! Basic Materials list provided upon registration Sat, 10/19, 10am-4pm Sun, 10/20, 10am-4pm, AND Sun, 10/27, 12-4pm Instructor: Barbara Hanselman
