*New* Winning Chess: Playing for Beginners

Community Education, BG-WC • 1227 Westen St. Bowling GreenKY  42104 Organized by Community Education Bowling Green Warren County

About this event

- Whether you have been playing chess for awhile but would like to move beyond the beginner level and learn some winning tactics; - Whether you are a beginner who knows how to play a game of chess but very little about winning strategy; - Whether you are a novice who has never played chess before in your life and would like to learn the game; ...this class is for you. Novices will learn the basics of how to play the game in a non-threatening atmosphere: what the pieces are and how they move; board set up; specialty moves; and how one wins the game. Then the class will learn the best moves to open a game with; discover strategies and tactics to get an advantage in the middle game (pins, forks, skewers, discovered checks, double checks, etc.); and how to close out the game by checkmating the opponent. Each class period will include both instruction and free play. Bringing your own board is not required, but it is encouraged.
