About this event

Description

Painting: Experimental Watermedia/ Unique Techniques - All Levels (1+)
Instructor: Laura Whitesides Host

This class allows students to expand their paintings by exploring and experimenting with non-traditional mixed water media techniques to enrich the paint-ing surface. Traditional and experimental painters will benefit as they adapt these experiments into their own painting styles. This class is also a great way to start painting for the student who is willing to jump in and bring a sense of adventure.New and returning students are welcome as each semester offers something different.

Materials ListGeneral Supplies: a general rule - if you use better pigments and better paper, you'll have better results. This is not the place to skimp. ALSO- we can order from Cheap Joe's on the first class - no shipping fees and I'll bring your order to class. If you have limited supplies, bring what you have and we can assess onfirst class what you might need.

You could get watercolor pads. The bigger, the better! And they are usually they are Arches brand.
Items in BOLD are also supplied or available by instructor. I usually ask for a small supply fee and that way you can try out some things without buying them first.
Basic watercolor paint colors: Alizarin Crimson(a cool red), Cadmium Red light( a warm red), Cadmium yellow (warm tone), Lemon Yellow(cool tone), Ultramarine or Cobalt Blue (cool tones), Cerulean blue (warm tone), Pthalo Blue and Pthalo green (good to mix with other colors), Hooker's Green (cool tone), Sap Green or Green Gold (warm tone), Mauve or Dioxazine purple, Permanent Rose or Quinacridone rose, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Indigo (great for really dark mixtures instead of black which can be a "dead"- looking pigment).Quinacridone gold (Nickel Azo Gold) is a great mixer also - gives a zip to your work.
Many in my class are also using Fluid Acrylics. If you have some - bring them. If not, I have some for sampling and you could order them in the first class.Questions? Email me - laurawhost@gmail.com.
