About this event

Handbuilding is the art of making ceramic forms without the use of a potter's wheel. Students will study the basics of building pots by pinch, coil, and/or slab built techniques, and learn the important safety guidelines and procedures of ceramics studio. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware, raku, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost), glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed). Included Free Studio Access - (Wet Work and Glazing) Morning classes will have 1.5 hrs of free studio time after class, 12:00pm-1:30pm (Monday - Thursday Only) Evening classes will have 1.5 hrs of free studio time before class, 5:30pm-7:00pm (Monday - Thursday Only) All other times are Paid Studio Access. Paid Studio Access Basement, Handbuilding (indoors & outdoors), Carriage House, Sculpture, & Glaze Studio Access. There will be a $50 quarterly opt-in fee for enrolled students who wish to actively work during Monday through Thursday (1:30 PM - 5:30 PM), Friday (9:30 AM - 3:00 PM), Saturday and Sunday (9:30 AM - 2:00 PM), for the 8-week spring term. Students who do not opt for Open Studio Access will have access to the studios to cover and uncover work or move work to firing shelves.
