In this class, students will learn how to incorporate prongs into sterling silver pendants and rings. This type of setting can be used to hold cabochons, faceted stones and even alternative materials such as coral or petrified wood. This 3 week class will cover basic metal forming, how to prepare and solder prongs, stone setting and finishing techniques. Students will have the opportunity to design and create either rings, pendants, or bracelets and should have time to complete 1- 2 finished pieces in class with the materials provided, depending on the complexity of their design and skill level. Both beginners and continuing students are welcome! Supply Notes: Tuiton includes set of materials for each student, which will includes a set amount of silver sheet metal, silver wire, and a selection of up to 2 cabochon stones in addition to the use of studio tools/materials. Stone options may vary in color, shape, and size from the image provided. Students who choose to make a pendant or bracelet must provide their own chain. The instructor will provide guidance the first night of class on where students can purchase wholesale chain. Students who prefer to use their own stones are welcome to do so. *All work will be completed in class. There are no independent studio hours included with this course. *Please plan to attend each session of class to allow for complete and finished projects.
