Description
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (Ages 15 and up)
Participants acquire the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent
drownings and injuries.
Prerequisites -
Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
A. Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
B. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
C. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
A. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
B. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
C. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
D. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Certificate Requirement -Attend all class sessions. Demonstrate competency
in all required skills and activities. Demonstrate competency in the 3 final skill
scenarios. Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the three sections of the final written exam.
Certificate Issued and Validity Period
Lifeguarding/First Aid: 2 years CPR/AED/ for Lifeguards: 2 years
Participants must bring a sack lunch, swim suit, towel, water, sunscreen and water to class daily.
Participants must have completed the online blended learning course prior to the first day at the pool or they will be released from the program.

Some things to consider:
- Please make sure to bring a bagged lunch as we will not have much time for lunch.
- Bring a swimsuit, goggles, and one or more towels

- Complete all eLearning modules. eLearning modules MUST be completed prior to the start of the class.

Participants must have completed the online blended learning course prior to the first day at the pool or they will be released from the program. Save your progress as you go through the program.
