What's New
Brooks has introduced several new features in the Ghost 16 to enhance its performance:
- Lighter Weight Cushioning: The updated cushioning is not only soft and reliable but also lighter, allowing runners to feel less weighed down during their runs.
- Enhanced Upper: The upper part of the shoe has been re-engineered to provide a secure fit while maintaining breathability, ensuring that your feet stay cool and comfortable.
- CarbonNeutral® Product: In a commitment to sustainability, the Ghost 16 is a certified CarbonNeutral® product, using more recycled materials and producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
- Nitrogen-Infused DNA LOFT V3 Cushioning: This updated cushioning technology delivers even softer comfort underfoot, making every step feel plush.
With these innovations, Brooks aims to provide a smoother, more enjoyable running experience, whether you’re hitting the pavement for a light jog or an intense marathon training session.
What's the Same
While the Ghost 16 includes exciting new updates, it retains several key features that have made the Ghost series a favorite among runners:
- GlideRoll Rocker Technology: This technology provides soft landings and easy heel-to-toe transitions, helping runners maintain a smooth stride.
- Segmented Crash Pad: This feature promotes a seamless flow from landing to toe-off, ensuring that each step is efficient and comfortable.
- Engineered Air Mesh Upper: The upper material blends stretch and structure with just-right breathability, providing a comfortable fit without sacrificing support.
These tried-and-true features ensure that the Ghost 16 remains reliable, offering the consistency that loyal Brooks users have come to expect.
Brooks Ghost 16
About: A shoe doesn't get to a 16th iteration without being a fan favorite. And on its 16th try, Brooks knows what works for the Ghost line. The upper is the comfiest yet, and the introduced DNA LOFT v3 foam, which has been featured in other Brooks shoes but not the Ghost up to this point, feels more responsive yet cushiony than past versions.
The only negative you could say about the Ghost 16 is that it doesn't have a wow factor, but you don't necessarily need it. The Ghost 16 is a workhorse. It's a shoe that everyday runners can and will turn to repeatedly because it's so reliable, durable, and just plain comfortable.
Sometimes, you don't need the fanciest shoe on the market; you need something you can use to put in the miles. That's the Ghost 16.
When you hear "Brooks Ghost," you know the shoe will be comfortable, reliable, and a workhorse for daily miles.
Things We Liked:
"The upper is plush and comfy, but more importantly, it fits the wearer's foot perfectly."
"The comfort of this shoe is my favorite feature. I put them on, and they feel like they are hugging my feet."
"When looking for a consistent, dependable shoe that is well cushioned and will get you through most any run, the Brooks Ghost 16 delivers."
Areas for Improvement:
"After running in the Brooks Ghost Max so much lately (a 6mm drop), the 12mm drop of the Ghost 16 can feel a little extreme."
"I prefer a less aggressive drop. The high offset didn't suit my gait for anything other than casual running."
"These shoes have been around for quite some time, but while they are old, that doesn't mean Brooks has to let them have the same tired look. The shoes would greatly benefit from a little attention to aesthetics."
Final Thoughts
The Brooks Ghost 16 is a versatile, durable, neutral shoe that performs especially well for daily, long, and recovery runs. The foam in the midsole strikes a nice balance between cushioning and firmness, while the upper design offers breathability and support. The heel collar is stiff and stable but is balanced with lots of foam at the ankle for comfort. The upper structure contributes to a supportive "foot-hugging" sensation while providing ample room for natural movement in the toe box, and the substantial yet relatively light outsole is durable enough to go the distance. Bonus that it is constructed using a high percentage of sustainable materials, including plastic water bottles diverted from landfills.
It is a solid shoe for neutral runners looking for a durable and versatile daily trainer with a high offset and a balanced, forgiving ride with just enough cushioning. Fans of previous iterations of the Ghost will likely appreciate the new foam and slightly lighter weight it lends the Ghost 16. And, for those that have never experienced the Brooks Ghost, this might be the version to try.
