Inside the Ragnar Relay

Volunteers hustle around to make sure there is an endless supply of water, Gatorade, hot chocolate, coffee, and food. It's your time to refuel and get ready for the next day. Just remember, as you're resting, your teammate is still running. The van still has to make its way to the next exchange, so don't get too comfy.

It's time to take a quick shower, grab some fuel, and hop back in the car.

Day #2

At this point runners are spread out along the course. Ragnar volunteers start getting the after party ready around 9 a.m. because some teams finish in the morning. Most teams cross the finish line during the afternoon and evening, depending on their pace.

In the meantime, runners push through to finish their last leg. At this point, they have little sleep, tired muscles, and are feeling a little ripe. The thoughts of a warm meal, cold beverage, and a hot shower fill their minds as they make their way to the finish line.

Both vans get to the finish line as the last runner tackles the last leg of the course. Team members wait for the runner to get close to the finish line. As the runner rounds the corner, team members join that runner and they all cross the finish line together. Laughter and cheers roar as teams continue to finish. Teams get a group picture, individual medals, and an ice cold beer to celebrate their accomplishment.

After the race, people enjoy each others company and share stories about their experience. Battle wounds are compared and life-long friendships are made. It's a journey many never thought they could ever make, but they did it. And when runners are asked, "Would you do this again?" they don't even think twice. They simply say, "Absolutely. It's an amazing experience."
