The bike that started it all, the original Peloton Bike, is in and of itself a solid stationary bike. The frame is constructed from powder coated welded steel, and we like how it comes with an ergonomic seat that’s adjustable. Along with handlebars that shift up and down as well as forward and backward, the Bike has three points of adjustment so you can find your right fit. Steel crank arms and aluminum pedals round out the overall construction. The pedals are delta-compatible, which is great if you already own a pair of delta bike shoes but an added expense for those who don’t.
Plus, a conveniently located resistance knob is used to control the magnetic resistance which, unlike friction resistance, does not cause as much wear and tear on the flywheel. Unfortunately, the Peloton Bike does not have incline or decline capabilities like other bike options (like the NordicTrack in particular), but technology and connectivity is where the Peloton Bike excels. Originally released in 2018, the Peloton Tread was the first interactive treadmill to join Peloton’s lineup of cardio machines. The latest version of the Tread possesses all the interactive programming and connected technology that its brand is known for along with some noteworthy safety features. Featuring a ‘Tread Lock’ safety control, the Tread requires a password to prevent unauthorized use (great if you have kids or pets around). An additional safety key is attached when running and when detached, will stop the treadmill immediately.
Constructed from carbon steel, the Tread is built to last and can support weights up to 300 pounds. Designed for those 6-foot-4 and under, it’s also roomy enough for most users. The belt is a standard rolling running belt but has minimal cushioning. It can feel stiff to some but the majority of runners report it has just enough bounce that makes it better than running on the pavement. The belt also has a center red line intended to keep runners centered on the Tread and to encourage better running mechanics.
Resistance and incline can be controlled with intuitive adjustable knobs, a jump button to increase by one mile per hour or one percent, as well as on-screen shortcuts. This small device is essentially a fitness-based webcam that transforms any room into a personal training studio by connecting with your TV. Your TV becomes your guide, where you can strength train by following the direction of world-class trainers. Monitor your form by watching yourself on the TV screen alongside your instructor to ensure proper technique. The Guide is equipped with a “movement tracker” intended to track your movements and keep you motivated in each class. A "movement tracker" icon is displayed on the screen and fills up as you complete your workout.
With a monthly membership, users can access thousands of strength classes in addition to all the other types of other fitness classes offered by Peloton. The Guide actually provides personalized class recommendations based on the muscle groups you've worked in previous classes, a feature called "body activity."
