Description

Bronze Medallion teaches lifesaving principles, incorporating the four components of water rescue educa­tion: judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Participants learn tows, carries and release methods in prepa­ration for challenging rescues of increasing risk. They also learn to respond to increasingly complex situa­tions, involving conscious and unconscious victims, in contact and non-contact rescues. Swimming strokes have been reintroduced with a focus on lifesaving kicks and head-up strokes. Endurance swim of 400 meters in 12 minutes is required for successful completion of this level. Successful participants receive the Bronze Medallion and Lifesaving CPR B awards.100 % attendance and participation is recommended. Prerequisites: Under age 13: Bronze Star completed by the first day of the course Age 13 and up: Bronze Star not required, must be 13 years of age by the last date of the course, must provide proof of age Next Level: Lifesaving - Bronze Cross

Participants are required to purchase the following non-refundable items:
* the Canadian Lifesaving Manual - approximate cost $43.00
* a Leadership Starter Kit (gloves, whistle, mouth barrier) - approximate cost $26.00
*PLEASE NOTE: these items are NOT available for purchase at Provencher Outdoor Pool. Please purchase at St. Vital Outdoor Pool (5 des Meurons Street).

- All family members must complete a self-assessment prior to arrival; should any family member feel unwell, no members of the family attend the facility

- All lesson participants (and parents/guardians) arrive lesson-ready (in swimsuits); change room/bathroom/shower access will be limited

- Pool deck viewing space will be reduced. A maximum of one parent/caregiver per household is asked to be present on the pool deck. Please be advised that on-deck seating will be limited (please expect to stand for the duration of your child’s lesson)

- The participant (or accompanying parent/guardian) will be responsible for taking any used equipment to Disinfectant Zone for Hyper-chlorination at the end of the lesson

Please bring your own face mask. It is required that you wear a face mask during your training (masks will not be worn during water activities)
