Writing with Skill Level 2 Instructor: Candace Rydell Students in Advanced High School Composition will learn skills needed for success at the college level. Opportunities to practice writing develop the student’s accuracy and confidence in writing conventions, sentence structure, and grammar. The writing process, organization, revision and editing criteria will be detailed so that learners will strengthen foundational skills in order to write with finesse in college and beyond. Students will focus on four elements of strong writing: unity, support, coherence, and sentence skills. By analyzing mentor texts to study illustration, process, cause and effect, definition, argument and classification, learners become adept at utilizing these processes in their own writing. Co-op provides a great format for collaboration. Students can share ideas, solicit and offer constructive feedback, and practice reading before an audience. Practice tests are included to bolster confidence An option parents and students may appreciate is an extra online quiz platform. New copies of the text provide access to LearningCurve, an online game-like interface that encourages progress through the online quiz format which is based on material covered in class.
