About this event
This intense course is designed for students entering Grade 8 and Grade 9. The goal of this course is to prepare students for high-school freshman-level Honors Algebra 2 + Trigonometry, or even for potential exemption from freshman Algebra 2 + Trigonometry. This summer course covers a year’s worth of course material in six weeks. Each daily class is 4 hours long and students are assigned 2 – 3 hours of mandatory daily homework and self-study exercises. Students take a quiz or test every day to assess mastery of completed subject material. Formal assessments include one mid-term and one final examination. This class will provide students with a deeper understanding of functions and their real-world applications. Particularly attention will be given to linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. The course will also introduce the concept of complex numbers. Students will also learn to work with systems of equations, trigonometric functions and identities, as well as sequences and series. Additionally, students will learn the fundamentals of probability and statistics and their applications to real-world decision-making. A graphing calculator (TI-83/84) is required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1, as demonstrated on the final/placement exam. A grade of A and departmental approval is required.
