About this event
Activity Organizer: Amy Wu Email: hui_xian_wu@yahoo.com Dates: 1st & 3rd Wednesday Time: 4:00PM–5:00PM Grades: 6–8 Cost: $100 to BISV, $50 to Club This club will introduce students to Java programming. Students will learn basic programming concepts like variables, input/outputs, loops, arrays, and functions and have the opportunity to practice applying these concepts on their own. Java is an excellent programming language for students to learn to get introduced to coding and Computer Science. Our club would allow students to learn the basics of Java and apply the concepts into programs on their own. Java is also the coding language used in AP Computer Science A, so it is useful for students interested in taking the course in the future to be introduced to it earlier. Many concepts in Java are applicable to other coding languages as well, which makes it useful for students to learn Java to get introduced to coding. Java can be applicable in many fields such as e-commerce, finance, mobile, big data applications, and computing platforms. It is also the language used to power the search engine of Wikipedia and other websites like Facebook, Google, and Amazon. Due to the practical and popular applications of Java to the real world and its usefulness for preparing for AP CSA and being introduced to coding, we want to create the Basic Java club so that students can be introduced to Computer Science through a popular and useful language: Java.
