About this event
Television, radio, newspapers, magazines, cinema and the Internet are just some examples of media, which are overwhelmingly important to 21st century life. Media Studies seeks to offer understanding and skills in the way media work and to assess their impacts upon individuals and society. Through this course, students will be introduced to a range of key theoretical and practical aspects of Media as an Art (Media Arts). As an introduction, Media Arts provides an overview of core arguments about media and their role in society, focusing on various issues including ownership, meaning, bias and influence. The mastery of the standards below will prepare students for entry level/internship positions in the media industry. Upon completion of this course students will have a basic understanding of how various mediums work and how they are constructed to impact individuals and society. Work produced in class may be used to supplement applications for college and/or media programs and internship positions. One semester meets the CTE graduation requirement or one semester can be applied towards the VAPA requirement. UC Approved for 9-12th graders only. No credit will be awarded to 8th grade students.
