Mixing Decorative Surfaces and Illustration

Course Description: Create beautifully decorative drawings and paintings by combining decorative craft paper with illustrated imagery. Using your choice of decorative paper, create a design that incorporates both pattern and recognizable imagery. Open to all drawing or painting media. That means, you can use whatever media you want for the illustrations. You may draw or paint in pencil, ink, watercolor, oil, pastel, or acrylic. Or a combination or media. Some essential tools will be needed. They are listed below.
Essential Supplies: 9x 12 or larger tablet of Mixed-Media paper or smooth watercolor paper 9x12 or larger tablet of tracing paper low tack tape 3M light blue 2B pencil for tracing image Source of imagery Vinyl and kneaded erasers Matte Mod Podge glue and sealer 8 fl ounces or PVA glue Exacto knife and blades small container of gesso piece of 220 sand paper tube of white gouache Cutting surface such as self-healing mat or heavy cardboard Various decorative patterned papers such as for crafting or wall paper samples You can also have designs that you like printed at 11x17 by a print shop
Potential Media You Might Choose: Various dry pastels, set of drawing pencils, watercolor, acrylic or oil paints, micron pens (fine liners), stencils, stamping tools, inks, and any other supplies you need to use the chosen media.
Presented by Roxana Tuff: Roxy is a metalsmith and illustrator who holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a MFA in Painting. She is an outstanding instructor having taught in the art studio area at Texas State for 14 years and for Life-Long Learning for 6 years.
