Description

We're sorry, but this course is over. The last meeting was Friday, July 24, 2020.

This survey course will examine the compositional developments of Igor Stravinsky through the 20th-century. With each week examining a different stylistic period, we will be able to track Stravinsky in his personal artistic philosophy, and how that changed following the First and Second World Wars. We will see how Stravinsky’s complicated relationship with his Russian heritage found its way into his music, as well as how he redefined himself in both Paris and Los Angeles. In addition, we will also examine the important figures in Stravinsky’s life, including Sergei Diaghilev, Robert Craft, and Dylan Thomas.
