About this event

This activity is closed to further registration.

Artists have been creating jewelry for over 100,000 years – with the earliest examples originating in Africa and proliferating throughout the world, growing in complexity and creativity. Learn both historical and contemporary practices in this foundation course. Explore fundamentals of fabrication with nonferrous metals such as copper, brass, and sterling silver. Through assignments, gain experience in sawing, filing, silver (torch) soldering, polishing, and basic patination. Chain-making and the elements of design will also be introduced.

No prerequisite. Price includes a $50 studio and basic materials fee which provides all basic materials. Additional materials available for purchase.

Pay What You Can: We understand that our activity fees may be a barrier to participation for some members of our community. If you are unable to pay the full fee amount, you may use the discount feature at check-out to pay what you can.

Donate: Portland Parks & Recreation relies on customer activity fees to make public programs possible. If you have the financial means, please consider making a donation to PP&R’s “Community Access Fund” at check-out (see the “Donation” drop-down list.). This fund helps us serve those in need. Thank you for your support.
