Parker Recreation offers lifeguard training to learn how to safely rescue swimmers while maintaining personal safety. Participants will also be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. This course is offered in a blended learning format, online and in person.
Level of Instruction: Pre-Test to be completed on the first day of class:
- Swim 300 yards continuously using a strong front crawl stroke with proper breathing and a coordinated breaststroke
- Tread water for two minutes using only the legs
- Starting in the water, swimmers must swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on their back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder, all within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Skills/Fundamentals Learned: Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguard Training course receive an American Red Cross two-year certificate in the following:

Registration Instructions: This class is a blended learning format with a combination of online and classroom skills. You will receive an email from Sales Force about 10 days prior to the class with your individual link for the online portion of the class. Class Requirements: Participants must have completed their online portion before attending in person. Proof of completion is required. Equipment: Participants need a swim suit, towels, dry clothes, water and snacks. It is recommended to have multiple swim suits, towels and dry clothes, as transitioning from a classroom to the pool will happen more than once.
