Once upon a time in China, there lived a kind hearted and hardworking boy named Ma Liang. Ma Liang loved art and dreamt of becoming a painter as he practiced making drawings in dirt using sticks and branches. One night, he was gifted a magic brush and was told to use its powers wisely for anything he painted would come to life! What would be the first thing you paint if you were given a magic brush? Together we will journey into the rich history of traditional Chinese painting(国画)and learn brush techniques to paint original pieces on paper and on paper fans! Each artist will also get to create a signature seal with carving tools and rubber. Venturing out of the classroom, we plan on visiting The MET to observe and learn about masterpiece paintings as well as watching a documentary on the landscapes that have inspired Chinese art and literature for millennia. With all these fun activities, we can’t wait to share the world of 国画 with you!
