School’s Out, Art’s In! Explore fun art projects, experiment with new materials, and enjoy movement games and collaborative activities on Montrose Professional Development Days — the first Monday of each month!

December 1st: “Artistic Animal Adventures: Expressing your Wild Side!“
Join us for an artistic adventure exploring the animals native to our Western Slope environment with art, activities, and games! Through an artistic lens, young artists will discover the habitats, movements, and unique traits of local wildlife, turning their observations into creative expression. Using recycled materials, they’ll create paper-mache animal masks that reflect their own personalities. Alongside hands-on projects, movement games, and collaborative activities, artists will have plenty of opportunities to express their creativity in a fun, supportive environment with Emily Knickerbocker.

About your teacher:

Emily Knickerbocker is an artist and educator based on Colorado’s Western Slope, where the surrounding mountains, valleys, and deserts inspire connection, reflection, and creativity. Her artistic practice centers on natural and repurposed materials, capturing the raw, interconnected qualities of the natural world. Through her work, Emily seeks to nurture meaningful relationships between people and the environment, where personal expression can spark advocacy, healing, and wonder. She holds a BA in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and has taught in diverse settings from public schools to alternative, outdoor-based programs. Currently, Emily is expanding her personal art practice while continuing to create engaging educational opportunities for youth in Ridgway and Montrose.
