This session we explore Slasher films with resident Horror Queen, Kim Douthit. Hell Fest-We're kicking it off with a modern Slasher set in a theme park on Halloween night. A good intro to the genre if you've not seen a lot of slasher films, as well as a great example of where how the slasher evolved. Child's Play-An interesting twist on the Slasher genre with a more supernatural angle. By the late 80s, slashers had evolved from the silent stalking killer to more examples of the wise-cracking killer. Texas Chainsaw Massacre-One of the definitive and extremely influential films of the genre as well as a masterclass on low budget filmmaking. Scream-Wes Craven, already a horror icon for his many films including Nightmare on Elm Street, revived the slasher genre in the 90s by showing us a more meta horror film. The influence of the self-aware slasher is one that continues to be seen on the screen today. Please note: This is a Horror Film class. If you are singing up your teen we assume you are aware that all films are rate “R” and in addition to violence may include nudity, sexual situations, and strong language.
